As a Child I always dreamt of working on a major motion picture. In late 1983 I moved from a small town in Oregon to Los Angeles, California.
I immediately started to work on many AFI, USC and UCLA student films. Soon after I set my career goal to be a writer, director of movies.
I was getting more work in lighting and electrical jobs for film projects so I headed into the film set lighting field. While working the set I made a personal goal to observe and learn as much as I could from “every” director that I have ever worked with.
I then began to work bigger and better film projects. In late 1988 I moved back home to Oregon and continued to work on features and “Movie of the Weeks". I met more and more people and got more calls to travel and work even bigger projects.
Over the years I found myself working with and observing some of the most interesting and creative directors in the industry, such as;
Ken Russell (Altered States,Tommy)
John Carpenter (Halloween,Christine)
Gus Van Zant (Good Will Hunting,Finding Forrester)
Curtis Hanson (L.A. Confidential,8 Mile)
William Friedkin (Exorcist, The French Connection)
Richard Donner (Lethal Weapon (series), Superman I&II)
I also found myself working along side of some of the biggest stars such as;
Samuel L. Jackson, River Phoenix, Marlon Brando, Ben Johnson, Johnny Depp, Burt Lancaster, Burt Reynolds, Pierce Brosnan, George Kennedy, Cuba Gooding Jr, Sylvester Stallone, George Clooney and on and on...
With over 25 years of hard work, determination, learning experience, and well over several hundred film and video projects behind me, I now feel I’m ready to move on. I know many new directors have come out of “film school” with little to none film, let-alone directing experience, but I feel I have gone through a better teaching environment that anyone could have ever paid to attend, “The School of Hard Knocks”.
